Controversy has arisen from time to time that spas, massage centers and beauty salons operate in areas under the jurisdiction of the Chennai Corporation without proper licensing. There were also complaints of prostitution on behalf of massage parlors in some places.

In this situation, the Metropolitan Corporation of Chennai has come up with new rules for obtaining business licenses for spas, massage centers and beauty salons.

New rules have been drafted on behalf of the company that spas, massage centers and beauty salons must comply with 21 conditions and 27 guidelines to obtain a business license.

These were decisively adopted at the meeting of the Board of the Corporation and approved on that basis. According to the rules, a one-stop-shop system will be approved by a committee consisting of the Chennai Corporation, the fire department, the transport department and the pollution control board.

The rule system includes massage centers not to operate with locked doors. Exterior doors must remain open during massage centers and beauty salons.

Do not run beyond the allotted time. The new rules introduced by the company state that customers must have a separate attendance register.

Also, under no circumstances should sex-related services be provided. The police and company officials will investigate based on the complaint. Strict action will be taken if it is found that sexual services are being provided. If there are complaints, the police and company officials will investigate.

A ‘CCTV’ surveillance camera must be installed inside and at the entrance. Rules have been added that the service should not be provided to infected persons. After serving someone, the employee should wash their hands with soap. Only then should they provide service to the next person.

Similarly, after serving one person, the equipment used should be properly cleaned before serving the next. Do not use cosmetics that may cause side effects. It is also advisable for the person applying for the license to have completed the corresponding course.
