Juliana Velasquez to make first title defense against Denise Kielholtz at Bellator 262
Bellator women’s flyweight champion Juliana Velasquez will make her first title defense at Bellator 262 in July.
Promotion officials announced in a press release Friday that Velasquez will face Bellator kickboxing champion Denise Kielholtz at the event, which takes place July 16 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT. The flyweight title fight will serve as the main event of the evening.
Velasquez (11-0) took the promotion’s 125-pound weight class by storm, a run that earned her the right to previously undefeated champion Ilima-Lei Macfarlane last year. Velasquez traveled the distance with the Hawaiians, becoming the first fighter to get the better of “The Iliminator”.
The 24-year-old Brazilian also holds victories over Bruna Ellen, Kristina Williams and Alejandra Lara, among others.
Kielholtz (6-2), who holds gold in Bellator kickboxing, has competed in MMA since 2015. Her mixed martial arts career really started two years later under the Bellator banner, and she has since posted a 6-1 record for promotion. Currently on a four-game winning streak with four finishes, Kielholtz will take part in the title challenge after a knockout of Kate Jackson last October.
“I am extremely excited and happy to return to the BELLATOR cage and defend my title for the first time,” said Velasquez, quoted in Friday’s press release. “I have trained really hard and I am completely ready to give an incredible performance to my fans. Denise was a great champion in the BELLATOR kickboxing ring, but this MMA belt is mine and she will return to Brazil with me after the fight.
