BALLSTON SPA – The Ballston Spa Central School District has been awarded the NAMM Foundation’s Best Communities for Music Education designation for its outstanding commitment to music education.
Ballston Spa is one of only 4% of public school districts nationwide to receive the prestigious award in 2021. The district has received recognition for five consecutive years, starting in 2017.
The Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in their efforts to provide music access and education to all students. To qualify for the Best Communities designation, Ballston Spa answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class attendance, instruction time, facilities, program support music, music education during the COVID pandemic, and community music creation programs.
This award recognizes that Ballston Spa is leading the way in music learning opportunities as outlined in federal education legislation, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). The legislation has designated music and the arts as important components of a comprehensive education for all children. NAMM Foundation’s Best Communities for Music Education Award and State-level Implementation of Federal ESSA Law Draws Attention to the Importance of Keeping Music Education in the Curriculum and accessible to all students. It also highlights the vital role of music in the overall success of students in school and the personal benefits of making music.
The district celebrates Music Month in Our Schools each year in March with several special events, including an annual pop concert for the school community and recognizing students who have performed in state and regional honor groups during a meeting of the education board. The district congratulates all students, staff and families involved in the Ballston Spa music community.
