Massage Envie spa

By TAMMIE SMITH Richmond Times-Dispatch

A $ 1.1 million lawsuit has been filed against Massage Envy on behalf of a woman who said she was hit in the breasts and buttocks by a Massage Envy employee at Short Pump last April.

The woman had a full body massage on April 10 at the spa at 4346 Pouncey Tract Road, when a massage worker, Albert L. Safewright Jr., inappropriately touched her, according to the lawsuit filed in circuit court of Henrico County last month. The woman, identified in the lawsuit by the initials LW, said she was “embarrassed, shocked, confused, scared and traumatized” by the incident.

The lawsuit names Massage Envy Franchising LLC, ME Short Pump Inc. as Massage Envy and Safewright as defendants.

Safewright was arrested and ultimately convicted of assault, according to the lawsuit.

Contacted about the lawsuit involving the location of Short Pump, Massage Envy’s media office provided a statement that the company was not commenting on a specific ongoing litigation. The statement also urged any customer improperly affected to report it immediately.

“Massage Envy is committed to promoting a safe environment for members, guests and service providers in each of our 1,200 franchises nationwide. We urge anyone who experiences anything other than a safe and quality massage to report it immediately to the franchise location so that it can be investigated, ”the statement said.
